companies sought for London Olympics
London's
new mayor wants Indian companies to help ensure
the British capital delivers a world class
Olympic games in 2012. Boris Johnson made his appeal
as figures released showed a record number of Indian
firms invested in London last year, making the British
capital a key centre for Indian companies looking
to expand globally.

Kingfisher
Airlines to go international early September
Kingfisher
Airlines, one of India's largest domestic carriers,
will launch its international service with daily
flights to Europe and Southeast Asia by Sep 3 and
the US soon after, airline chairman Vijay Mallya
said. Non-stop flights from Bangalore and Mumbai
to London, and from Mumbai to Hong Kong and Singapore
are to begin Aug 31- Sep 3 2008.

government accuses Ranbaxy of forgery, data fraud
The
US government has filed a complaint against India's
largest pharmaceutical company Ranbaxy Laboratories,
and its US-based consultant, for forgery and concealing
data. It alleges the pharma giant had tried to forge
and conceal data in order to get a favourable judgement
in an ongoing investigation into the sale of sub-standard
drugs in that country.

Indian
firms, Clinton Foundation sign deal on malaria drugs
Four
Indian and two Chinese companies will cut the price
of a key malaria drug following a pact signed with
the US-based Clinton Foundation, which works towards
finding solutions to issues such as poverty and
healthcare. The Indian companies are generic drug
firms Cipla and IPCA Laboratories, which manufacture
anti malaria drugs.

Indian
biotech sector grows by 20%
India's
biotechnology sector posted $2.56 billion (Rs.103
billion) in revenue during 2007-08, registering
20% growth over the previous fiscal at $2.1 billion,
an industry survey revealed. The survey, conducted
by the Association of Biotech Led Enterprises (ABLE),
noted that 56% of the sector's revenue was generated
from exports.

insurer Bupa in joint venture with India's Max
British
insurer and care group Bupa is setting up a joint
venture in India with Max, a health business group.
Under Indian law, Bupa gets only a 26% share in
the joint venture, called Max Bupa. The venture's
total capital will be £12 million.

The
Chilli Pub Company at The Oak Hockley Heath
From
early August there will be a new addition to the
gastro pub map, when The Oak at Hockley Heath opens
its' doors to customers. Executive Chef Hash Chavda
and Operations Manager Tony Day have joined forces
to form The Chilli Pub Company. Their first project
together will see them transform the four acre former
Royal Oak site at Hockley Heath into a 120 seat
restaurant.

Tiffinbites
now Britain's largest Indian restaurant group
The
Gourmet Restaurant Group, owners of the Tiffinbites,
has become the largest Indian restaurant group
in Britain after acquiring two restaurant chains.
The group has purchased Bombay Bicycle Club chain
and Vama, started by Arjun and Andy Varma. The
group already owns the Tiffinbites chain which
is inspired by the dabbawalas of Mumbai.

Hell to rival the Bollywood Burner
Chefs
in Britain are rather getting hot under the collar
over claims to the world's hottest Indian curry.
Chef Vivek Singh this week claimed his creation,
titled the Bollywood Burner, is the hottest in the
world. But Bangladeshi restaurateur Rukon Latif,
owner of the Rupali Restaurant, says that his dish
called 'Curry Hell' is hotter than the 'Bollywood
Burner'!

Indian
restaurant in Cardiff is House of Commons favourite
A Kerala fish curry was all it took for an Indian
restaurant in Cardiff to win the Tiffin Cup 2008,
awarded by the House of Commons, for South Asian
cuisine. Chef Anand George of the Mint and Mustard
Restaurant on Whitchurch Road, Cardiff wowed celebrity
chef Ainsley Harriot and MPs from around the country
with his pan-fried sea bass.
