funding enforced, but further evidence has come
to light regarding the Arts Council's cavalier

should have half share of top arts board posts
says Hodge
A
publicity campaign aimed at women from all walks
of life to get them to apply for positions on
the boards of arts and sports bodies was launched
today by Culture Minister Margaret Hodge. At present,
only one in three of those filling the 600 or
so governing posts on DCMS arts and sporting bodies
are women, and Margaret Hodge has set a firm target
to raise this proportion to fifty per cent.

Reliance-MTN
talks' continue despite Ambani feud
South
African mobile giant MTN is still maintaining a
firm silence on a possible deal with Reliance Communications.
There were concerns that the talks may have been
delayed by an intervention from Mukesh Ambani of
Reliance Industries, the older sibling of Anil Ambani.
Mukesh had contacted MTN to indicate that he had
first right of refusal for any sale of a stake in
Reliance Communications.

Ambani opens shop in Britain looking for European
investors
Britain
has approved the proposal of Indian tycoon Anil
Ambani to open a London office of his fund managing
company, Reliance Assets Management (RAM), to attract
European investors for the first time. RAM will
be represented in Britain by its offshore fund,
Emergent India. The minimum investment in the Emergent
India fund is $100,000.

Tata
Steel debuts on Fortune 500 list, ranks 315
Due
to its acquisition of the Corus, Tata Steel has
entered the Fortune 500 list at rank 315, while
India's Reliance Industries jumped 63 places to
reach 206. Tata Steel had an annual revenue of $25,707
million, Reliance posted $35,915 million. Reliance
and Tata Steel are the only two Indian companies
in the private sector on the list.

Company Allied Digital acquires US firm for $30mn
Allied
Digital Services Ltd (ADSL), which provides information
technology infrastructure management services, has
acquired a majority interest in the Los Angeles-headquartered
En Pointe Global Services (EPGS) for $30 million,
the company announced Thursday. ADSL's market cap
is currently valued at approx. $335 million, as
quoted on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
