50th London Film Festival, from 18 October 2 November
2006, includes nine films from India & Bangladesh, ranging
from Mira Nair's of 'The Namesake', about family and change,
to Actress Rekha in 'The Journey' (Yatra) in which a novelist
goes in search of the not-so imaginary heroine of his latest
fiction.

Widely
known as a platform for independent films and aspiring filmmakers,
the 14th Raindance Film Festival returns with another voyage
of discovery. Among the South Asian screenings are 'Page 3'
by Madhur Bhandarkur, that looks at celebrity lifestyles through
the eyes of a female entertainment writer, 'The Last Monk' by
Sudipto Sen and 'Suruwat' by K P Pathak.

Mundhra announced that he has launched his film production company,
Cine Boutique Entertainment U.K. Ltd. to start his next film
project Shoot On Sight. The film is a drama dealing
with the current terrorism attacks in UK through a London Metropolitan
Police Officer of Muslim heritage who must display courage in
face of family conflict.

Eros
International, today announced a five-year output deal with
production house K Sera Sera, to exclusively handle co-production
and global distribution of its forthcoming films. Projects in
the pipeline include 'Nanhe' starring Bobby Deol, 'Dombivili
Fast' directed by Abbas Mastan (showing at the London Film Festival
2006) and three Salman Khan films, including 'Partner' directed
by David Dhawan.

TO PLAY A COURTESAN IN 'UMRAO JAAN' REMAKE |
Veteran
director J.P. Dutta has reinvented Umrao Jaan, an adaptation
of Mirza Ruswas critically acclaimed novel Umrao Jaan
Ada (1904), propelling this 150-year-old masterpiece onto the
big screen. This new adaptation stars former Miss World Aishwarya
Rai, who will take on a role immortalised by Rekha, Abhishek
Bachchan, Shabana Azmi and Suniel Shetty.

'MARRIAGE OF FIGARO', UK TOUR 7 OCT - 2 DEC |
Tara
Arts continues its mission to make connections between cultures
through theatre with Ranjit Bolt's racy new translation of The
Marriage of Figaro, Beaumarchais' witty tale of love, betrayal
and ultimately forgiveness, relocating it to the dying years
of the Mughal Empire. Directed by Jatinder Verma the play will
open in London prior to a national tour.

Following
a successful opening at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Pentabus
Theatre presents the London premiére of White Open Spaces
at Soho Theatre. In 2004, Trevor Phillips, Chair of the Commission
for Race Equality asked if the countryside is guilty of a "passive
apartheid" and suggested that there is an urban/rural divide
in our attitude to race. Runs from 26 September until 14 October
in London.
