Greetings Curry Lovers!
You are receiving this email because either you've pre-registered or you know me personally.
I am delighted to tell you that the main course is now being served at redhotcurry.com.

You may like to visit the site and sign up now, before your chosen login is snapped up by someone else of the same name (almost an occupational hazard in the Asian community!). Signing up on the site allows you access to "member only" services like the discussion boards and chat, as well as the choice of an email account (optional),

  ENTERTAINMENT GALORE

It has been a hectic social whirl of late with more plays, films, concerts and events in the UK than ever before. The Redhotcurry team has savoured as many as possible (well someone has to!) and we feature in the entertainment section a comprehensive review of all that is interesting.

Year 2001 has had much to offer. The Tamasha Group's rerun of Fourteen Songs, Two Weddings & a Funeral, Akram Khan's Polaroid Feet at the South Bank Centre. Talvin Singh's Mini-Meltdown. A slew of Awards ceremonies, like the ASIA and the Asian Women of Achievement, book launches and restaurant openings. The Regus London Film Festival, which ended last week and is now on tour, had a diverse range of films by South Asian Directors. Especially entertaining was 'Monsoon Wedding' by Mira Nair, famous for her other films 'Salaam Bombay' and 'Mississippi Masala'.

However, as the nights draw in you may choose to stay at home curled up with books. Fortunately there is no shortage of good books by South Asian Authors or about the region.

GABRIEL'S GIFT IS A JOY THE GREAT HEDGE IS A (P)RIVETING READ!
Gabriel's Gift by Hanif Kureishi

Gabriel's gift is a joy to read. What amazes me most about Hanif Kureishi's writing is his ability to see the world without cynicism, in an optimistic almost joyous way. The innocence of youth is skilfully captured in this tale. read more Read more

Great Hedge of India by Roy MoxhamThe 'Great Hedge of India' is riveting. The story of Englishman Roy Moxham's quest to find the remnants of what was once the longest hedge in the world, the book has almost a fictional flavour. read more Read more

GUIDE TO THE BEST SOUTH ASIAN RESTAURANTS.
But life is not all ha, ha, hee hee you know (if I may borrow Meera Syal's words). The team has been hard at work building a detailed South Asian Restaurant Guide, which can be searched geographically or by name. Take a moment to write a review of your favourite curry house.

  HELP I CAN'T COOK!

Of course, the original "raison d'être" of the site was to share a few recipes among friends, but a quick poll showed that a shocking number of Asian women simply CAN'T COOK. So with the help of 'Hot Favourites' owner, Meena Patel, we aim to bring you some basic recipes. To start with we've tackled rotis, parathas and puris. The featured recipe is age-old favourite, Chicken Tikka. And If really don't know your utility knife from your mezzaluna...you can look it up on the essential kitchen utensils list - advisable if you want to guess the featured mystery object.

Even if you attempt nothing more strenuous then opening a Marks & Spencer ready-meal, you might like to take a look at our comparison of the Bhajias and Naans sold by high-street supermarkets.

  WASTE TIME IN STYLE!
Rarely do we need a second invitation to idle away a few minutes doing not very much, but we take pride in the fact that at redhotcurry.com you can probably while away a good hour or so gassing in the chat rooms (members only), voicing your opinions on the discussion boards (members only), emailing electronic greeting cards to all and sundry or reading our viewpoint on the portrayal of Asians in Advertising, which is particularly apt given the CRE's report on Asian TV Celebrities (or the lack of them!).

  INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE
If all that partying and slaving our a hot stove has given you a headache, read our review of Narendra Mehta's book about the perfect Indian Head Massage. Ah...sheer bliss

Until next time
