Asia & The Indian Film Industry Workshop,
29 September 2010 |
Indias
film & entertainment industry is the largest
in the world, producing over for example 1,000
films annually. By 2008, it is expected to
gross £1.1 billion. More importantly,
over 50 per cent of each major film is shot
in an overseas location amounting to
around £60 million overseas expenditure
every year. Gateway Asia is holding a workshop
on 29th September 2010 to help build trade
links between the UK and the Indian film Industry.

Los Angeles to host a free Executive Business
Lecture in London on 20th September 2010.
This event is for UK companies interested
in expansion into international markets, as
well as those already in foreign markets looking
at market segmentation and product differentiation.
Guest Speaker for the event is Bob Foster,
Adjunct Professor, Technology Management at

| Equal pay for women still
57 years away |
The 2010 National Management Salary Survey,
published by the Chartered Management Institute
and XpertHR, shows that female salaries increased
by 2.8 per cent over the last 12 months, compared
to 2.3 per cent for men. However, with the
average UK salary for a male manager currently
£10,071 more than that of a female manager,
women face a 57 year wait before their take-home
pay is equal to that of their male colleagues.

| Poll of polls suggests UK
heading for a double-dip |
The
economy may be heading for a double-dip recession,
with fiscal and monetary policies unlikely
to spur recovery for the UK, according to
BDO LLP. The Optimism Index, which is a good
indicator of GDP growth two quarters ahead,
expects growth to drop markedly as we move
through 2010, falling towards zero in Q4 and
entering 2011 on a strong downward trend.

| Travel industry kisses goodbye
another budget operator this summer |
Another
budget operator, Kiss Flights, has gone into
administration leaving thousands of passengers
stranded. The budget firm sold flights to
Greece, Egypt, Turkey and the Canary Islands
and had 13,000 customers overseas and 60,000
people have forward bookings with the company.

| UK's top online wedding business,
Confetti falls into administration |
The
UK's leading online weddings business, Confetti,
has been placed in administration. The Manchester-based
business was founded in 1999 and had five
high street stores, a mail order division
and the website Confetti.co.uk which received
nearly 8 million hits a month. With a turnover
of c£5.7m, the company employed 94 staff
.

| Research shows male bankrupts
owe 60% more than females |
Research
by KPMG has shown the divergence in 'typical'
male and female bankrupts around the country.
The most striking difference is the level
of liability, with male bankrupts owing around
£91,000 while females owe £56,000.
The divergence is even more pronounced in
particular regions, specifically the South
East, which has the largest majority of male
bankrupts.

| New government
drive to boost women in the boardroom |
Business
Minister Edward Davey and Lynne Featherstone,
Minister for Equalities, announced that Lord
Davies of Abersoch will develop a business
strategy to increase the number of women on
the boards of listed companies in the UK.
Women made up only 12.2% of directors of the
FTSE 100 companies.

defence suppliers stand to benefit from an
overhaul of India's armed forces according
to KPMG. Already one of the world's top 10
military markets, India's increasing importance
to defence contractors should
be recognised given the Indian MOD increased
