Lord Mandelson |
UK
Business Secretary Lord Mandelson said
today that India and the UK must work
together to push back the frontiers
of research with scientists collaborating
in areas such as food and energy security.
The Business Secretary will visit one
of Indias most prestigious universities,
the Indian Institute of Science (IISc)
in Bangalore, which celebrates its centenary
this year.

| One third of women bullied
at work, says Unison
|
One
third of young women are being bullied in
the workplace - in addition, 41% of female
workers claim they have been bullied at some
point in their career, according to research
by the trade union Unison. The most common
bullying was both mental and physical, with
workers complaining of exclusion, intimidation,
unrealistic deadlines and excessive monitoring
of their performance.

Science & Technology 'iAward' Winners
2009
|
Winners
of the iAwards 2009, which celebrate the best
of British science, innovation and technology,
were announced on 18th November 2009. Topping
the honours list was Horizon Discovery Ltd,
a technology start-up company which scooped
the iaward of the Year for its hi-tech, X-MAN
Model Cancer Patient; a product that
identifies patients most likely to respond
to particular cancer treatments.

the key to employment and economic growth
in the sector, according to research released
by NESTA. Jonathan Kestenbaum, Chief Executive
of NESTA, also outlined the serious challenges

Accounting
fraud is the fastest growing economic crime
experienced by organisations in the UK and
the world, says PwC in its Global Economic
Crime Survey. The GECS survey found almost
half of organisations in the UK had experienced
some form of economic crime in the last 12
months.

Scottish Asian Business Awards 2009 paid tribute
to Asian business men and women, from business
giants to budding entrepreneurs, who are at
the forefront of their industry. Over 500
people attended the awards night on 11 November
2009 in Glasgow, including First Minister,
Alex Salmond; Secretary of State for Scotland,
Jim Murphy; Baroness Sayeeda Warsi and entrepreneur;
Charan Gill.

loses his case against Shilpa Shetty's V8

Jamal
Hirani, the former Chief Executive Officer
of fast food chain 'TiffinBites' has lost
his case for unfair dismissal against the
new owners of the business, V8 Gourmet Group
- now part owned by Bollywood actress, Shilpa
Shetty. Hirani, who co-founded Tiffinbites
in 2002, had claimed £1.5million in
compensation but was awarded only the pre-agreed
sum of £1323 holiday pay.

50 Women in World Business' list, with Indra
Nooyi, CEO of PepsiCo listed in first place.

Industries in 22nd place, Ruby MacGregor-Smith,
CEO of UK-based Mitie Group in 32nd place,
Kiran Mazumdar Shaw of Indian biotechnology
company, Biocon, in 47th place and Shobana
Bhartia of India's HT Media group in 48th
place.

the second largest foreign investor into the
UK
|
India
is now the second-largest source of foreign
direct investment (FDI) into the UK up from
seventh last year, according to a recent UK
Trade and Investment report*. At the same
time the UK has become the biggest foreign
investor into India. In securing 1,744* inward
investment projects the UK has maintained
its standing as the number one investment
location in Europe for 2008/09.

loan powers up Indian electric car maker
|
The
UK government today announced a £10M
loan to Tata Motors European Technical Centre
(TMETC) under the Automotive Assistance Programme,
set up to support investment in a lower carbon
future. The £10M loan will support £25M
of investment from Tata Motors to manufacture
electric vehicles in the UK. TMETC, a subsidiary
of Tata Motors, employs circa 180 people.

Gap: City Women paid 80% less in bonuses
|
Women
in some of the UKs leading finance companies
receive around 80% less in performance related
pay than male colleagues, an inquiry by the
Commission of Equality and Human Rights has
found. The finance sector has one of the highest
overall gender pay gaps in the UK economy
- with women working full-time earning 55%
less annual gross salary than men. This compares
to a pay gap of 28% for the economy generally.

knowledge & inertia according to the Ethnic
Minority Business Group. The group's research
