Founded
in 2003 by sisters Humerah Khan and Sumerah Ahmad,
Club Asia Radio, an Asian Youth station which
broadcast live across London on 963 and 972 AM,
has gone into Administration. It has informed
media regulator Ofcom that it has gone into administration
but was still broadcasting with the hope of fiinding
a new buyer. Club Asia had 202,000 listeners in
the first half of this year, according to the
latest Rajar figures, up from 188,000 in the previous
quarter and 198,000 in the same period in 2008.
The radio station which primarily
catered to the South Asian in community in Britain
with the aim to unite people of all cultures and
bridge the gap between generations and lifestyles
played hits from a wide range of musical genres
ranging from Bollywood, Bhangra, Asian Pop/Rock.
The station had been instrumental in the emergence
new Asian music stars.
