GLASGOW LOOKS TO PAKISTAN
(24 November 2004)

Pakistan FlagOn Wednesday 24th November 2004, a seminar on Software and Computer Services Opportunities will be held in Glasgow. The seminar will be presented by Hammad Siddiqui from the British Deputy High Commission in Karachi, Pakistan. The UK is the 5th largest exporter and the 2nd largest investor in Pakistan among the OECD countries. The software industry within Pakistan is estimated to be worth $25 million and growing at a rate of 15% per year.

Modernisation is clearly visible in this country with increasing use of the Internet and cheap band-with cost. With the infrastructure in place for the IT sector, the Government is also playing a vital role in the development of the domestic IT market ensuring the creation of an IT enabled culture in the country. There have already been several successful e-government projects such as an integrated database of Pakistan nationals.

Hammad Siddiqui will be discussing the market outlook for various sectors such as the Financial, Telecommunications and Automotive sectors. This will provide a high level outlook of the potential opportunities for UK Software Companies in Pakistan. "This seminar will provide a view of Pakistan never seen before and will assist UK companies in understanding the different options available to them. Pakistan is a country, which has a great deal to offer the global market, and therefore this seminar will be extremely useful in showcasing the opportunities available. I am looking forward to the event."

There will also be attendance from Richard Lewis, Senior Sector Manager for Europe, Middle East, Africa, Indian Sub-Continent & Asia, who will participate in discussions relating to the wider market. Additional speakers will also be present from Targeting Innovation and other local companies.

The event will be held in Nye Bevan House, 23 Elmbank Crescent, Charing Cross, Glasgow. Registration commences at 09.30hrs on 24th November 2004 and coffee/tea will be available prior to the commencement of the Seminar at 10.00hrs.
