Shaanti - The Original Asian Club Collective return to London

DJ Complextion to play on Shaanti Club NightHidden in the heart of the Midlands, Shaanti (meaning peace) have established a reputation as the leading club collective in the British Asian music scene. This month, the club collective ventures to London to launch its eight club residency at the Medicine Bar in Shoreditch starting on Friday 11th October. Since launching in January 1999, their monthly nights has become a firm favourite, playing host to the likes of Nitin Sawhney, The Dhol Foundation, ADF Sound System, Equal I - Anokha, Badmarsh and Shri, UK Apache, Indian Rope Man - Juttla, Magikstar, State of Bengal, Earthtribe, Joi Sound System, Jay Stuart - Acid Jazz, Charged, DJ Swami, Pathaan, Ges-E - Outcaste All Stars, Love the Life Collective, Tangawizi, DUM DUM Project, Tablatronics …and many more.

Shaanti plunders the musical history of the Indian subcontinent for inspiration to create Asian Fusion music - a coalition of Eastern instruments with cutting edge technology and production. DJ's mesh styles of hip-hop, Bhangra, Drum 'n' Bass, Jazz, and tablatronic beats over heavy bass loops - perfectly tuned for a rocking club night.

The whole sound of Shaanti is experimental as club promoter and DJ, Manga explains, 'The night presents far more than mere 'soundclashes and cross cultural fusionists', it almost invents it's own musical genres. Forget about talk of Asian Underground, Shaanti is a sound that appeals to a far wider audience. Shannti club night's has opened many doors to people who have never heard of drum n bass, Bhangra or of any Asian music - they now appreciate it and now understand what the whole scene has to offer."

On the night, DJ Badmarsh - (Badmarsh & Shri), will be playing a notoriously fierce set, alongside resident DJs, Suki - (Asian Dub Foundation, Nation Records), Bobby Friction - (Radio 1), and newcomer to the night, DJ Complextion -(BBA:Online), accompanied by a live tablatronic performance by Guru, Dalbir Singh - (Ian brown's percussionist).
